Great story line. I am Irish American who is a historian who has lived in Germany! A few years ago I went to Israel and learned so much more about the Holocaust from survivors and their children. I am Catholic and I am disgusted about those laundries.I even know children adopted from those laundries and raised by Americans. I worked with an order of nuns from Ireland who were the first to apologize to victims of these laundries. Ms Grainger really ties Ireland all together- the welcoming of Jewish children during the war, the beauty of family, the cruelty of the Church , the exploitation of women, and violence of the IRA. Good job! Book four of The Star and The Shamrock did not disappoint. As the anchor to the series I felt it wrapped things up nicely. Although I would have been happ to read about these people for a long time. In all of the books the characters came to life and became people I really cared about. Although tragic circumstances brought them to together, the people of Ballycragen became a family able to both mourn and celebrate together. The children of the farm were treated as true members of the community. They were watched over by all. The adults who lived with them as well as the others in the community looked out for them and cared for them. Mourning their lost childhoods and celebrating the adult accomplishments. Knowing that what started out as a confused and uncertain life could turn into a happy and productive future was heartwarming. I loved all of these books, all of the characters and all of their stories. I higher recommend this series to anyone with an interest in WWII, Ireland, or just the humanity of people in the darkest of times.
