I’m a little bit torn writing this. I wanted to enjoy this, truly I did, but I just didn’t.I personally feel like the author ran out of steam halfway thru and figured she’d start throwing things in and hope it came together.Don’t get me wrong this was a nice story. But this was supposed to be about Rita! We barely got to hear many cases, were treated to too many Draimund chapters, no interactions with the rest of the townspeople, and we barely had any chance to have Rita overthink her soulmate relationship...especially after finding out humans and fae can have children.Combine all of that with the editing errors that seemed to plague the last quarter of the book and the weird side plots that didn’t manifest into anything (looking at you Esme and Kagan); I just didn’t love this. I had anticipated the release of this book, but was very disappointed. I expected to read about how Rita and Kier had deepened their love relationship. Nope it seemed as if the author had forgotten the storyline and placed them in a mundane relationship in which the romance had fizzled and each went about their lives with very little interaction. That's definitely not what I wanted to read about. Then throw in Rita's daughter and the whole story goes downhill from there. Evie is supposed to be a well educated woman and mature. Nope that is disproved when she thinks that she is going to bring her future husband, the Faerie King , kicking and screaming into the latest century! He's the Fae King for goodness sake!. I expected Evie to be a graceful queen and enact change quietly and as a determined woman. However what we see is an immature childish girl who wants her way at all costs. In my opinion that's the beginning of being a story of a wicked queen. This just isn't what I thought it was going to be. The beginning of the book wasn't as compelling but because I paid for it I had to keep reading and hoping for the best. I'm not going to be reading any future releases.
